A creamy, sweet and versatile dip made with grapefruit and cultured cream cheese for a probiotic boost. It’s also a fun and great way to introduce children to cooking, with this super easy, and completely yummy recipe!
Thankfully, getting {my} children to eat fruit has never been a challenge. In fact, the only challenge I face regarding fruit is trying to make an entire bag of any fruit last beyond a 24 hour period – the kids behave as if it (whatever it may be) is the only source of food in the the house or on the face of the earth for that matter!
But, there are some fruits that are still a touch out of their palates preferences.
Healthy as they may be, there aren’t too many children who actually enjoy sour fruits, and so many in-season fruits fall into the more pungent category, like blood oranges and grapefruits. Eating with the seasons is such a great way to enjoy the varietal bounties of each individual season, and to help my little ones enjoy the fruits of winter.
Creating interest through making food for themselves can really open up children’s desire to try and and develop their little palates, as they learn to enjoy different flavors. This fruit dip isn’t just for winter fare though, its tasty and versatile qualities make a great accompaniment to any buffet, pot luck, and even summer barbecue. And, again, the challenge may how to make it last (or how much to make!).
- 2 8 ounce packages of organic and cultured cream cheese
- Juice of 1 medium Grapefruit
- 2 teaspoons ceylon cinnamon
- 2 tablespoons coconut milk
- 2 tablespoons raw honey (or use 3 tsp vanilla instead of honey if feeding to infants!)
- For the sake of teaching, talk about each ingredient as they are added, one by one into a large bowl.
- Then with parental supervision, using a hand mixer, beat on medium speed until creamy!
- Chop different varieties of fruits, serve, and dip away!
- Super easy and super delicious!
Here is another idea of how this can be used, as sweet hors d’oeuvres.
